Default Can't Clear EGR Monitor Drive Cycle

2004 XJ8, 88,000 miles. California smog check is due. Had coil issues recently so I did a whole bunch of code clearing.

I have driven over 400 miles since last code clear. Still have P1000 and EGR monitor incomplete. I've tried the recommended drive cycle many many times: In 3rd gear 2500rpm for a minute then coast for at least 10 seconds.

I have a P0101 that comes on and off intermittently. It is currently a pending code. In the 4 years I've had this car, the monitors always completed and I got P1111 even with the pending P0101. I have yet to figure out what the P0101 is, did the MAF troubleshoot and all was well. Probably a small air intake leak.

But never got any EGR codes

Would this pending P0101 code now be causing the EGR monitor to not clear, the EVAP cleared after about 200 miles, and no other monitors have been an issue.

I am considering clearing the P0101 code but I really don't want to do it!!!

I guess what I'm asking is:

1. Will a pending P0101 cause the EGR monitor to not clear?
2. Has anybody had an EGR monitor take more that 400 miles to clear?
3. Should I clear the codes and start over? (I've only got a couple more weeks till the smog is due, and I really don't want to do this)

Default Ready monitor

I had a car with not ready for three items for 2 years.
Found the detailed drive cycle and it cleared. Then a pending code finally came up and I cleared it. Then redid the driving cycle.
No problems since, been six months. The pending code was secondary air related. Seemed it was preventing it from resetting the monitors. EGR issue is similar to secondary air I think.

How long did it take to clear the second time?

stop clearing codes for any reason if you need to pass emissions soon it’s not that hard

fix your pending code otherwise the other monitor will never set to ready

Default Try drive cycle

Performing the drive cycle appeared to have caused the pending fault to become a fault code. Once cleared and the second drive cycle was performed the readiness issues cleared in about 40 miles.
The drive cycle I used involved driving at about 60, coasting to a stop, accelerating, and few other items. Definitely worked.

I haven't been able to figure out what is causing the P0101. But can you tell me for sure that the EGR monitor won't clear if it's pending? All the other monitors cleared with the code pending.

Default Good news! The monitor cleared!!!

So a while ago I took the car out with the express purpose of clearing the EGR monitor. I went to my usual stretch of road and began doing the recommended drive cycle, 3rd gear, 2500 rpm for one minute, then coast for at least 10 seconds. I did it 6 times with no success. In the meantime the P0101 code flagged and the CEL came on.

Then I got the idea to try just accelerating fast to varying speeds and letting off the gas and coasting as long as I could, including downshifting so I would slow down faster without touching the brake. All this while stopping to turn the car off and on again to clear the CEL.

Well after about another 4 or 5 times of doing that, and the CEL not clearing, I got a little disappointed and decided to call it a day. I checked codes one more time and BAAAAAMMM!!!!! The EGR monitor was clear. And it cleared with an active CEL!

SO LET IT BE KNOWN:

AS LONG AS YOUR PENDING OR ACTIVE CODE IS NOT RELATED TO THE NOT-READY MONITOR,

!!!! THE MONITORS WILL STILL CLEAR !!!!
