Default CATS system...a WTH?

Well, for the last 6 months I had the CATS error/yellow light on the dash. I was planning to get it looked at. I kind of liked the "hard" ride when it was malfunctioning. Well, this morning, the error code went away as did the yellow light and rides like a Cadillac again.

WTH?

Why would after all this time would it work normally? I'm not saying it will stay "corrected" but it just seems odd after 6 or so months of being in failure.

This brings me to another question: Why is there a"hard" ride and "soft" ride if you cannot actually change it with a button? I mean, I like the Cadillac-style ride at times, but never had a problem with the stiffer ride.

Thanks!
V

Our S-Type did this once. I bumped the connector on top of one of the shocks while the car was running and it lost connection which triggered the light and set the car to full stiff. Basically what happens is after the car hasn't seen any other suspension issues and the CATS module runs out of lines of code eventually the event that triggered the fault falls out of memory and the suspension goes back to normal function.

On and off is controlled by accelerometers, basically it's only meant to firm up when you toss it into a corner.

You can add a switch to manually engage firm if you want to.

Do you mean the Sport mode switch ? That doesn't input to the CATS system, it only inputs to the transmission control unit.

I think he means a switch to fool the cats unit into thinking it is always on a corner
