Probably just has to be retrained. Do the windows still go up/down?

If so, start with the drivers window and push down until the window reaches the bottom. Continue to hold the button down for 3-5 additional seconds. Then, push up until the window reaches the top. Continue to hold for 3-5 additional seconds. Auto up/down should now be trained. Repeat these steps for all other windows.

The above works like a charm just don't exceed 4-5 seconds as the windows motors have a thermal fuse to protect against burn-outs due to jammed switches or windows.

Default Auto up-down lost in 2010 XF

I realize this thread is in the XJ section, but this was the only hit that matched my problem. I few weeks ago, my 4 year old car battery completely died after sitting in garage for maybe 3-4 days. Anyhow, I got the car jump-started (Took a while using a 4-cylnder car to start an 8-cylinder engine). Mostly everything was fine but I noticed that I could no longer bring up (only) the front windows by a brief pull on the button. The rear windows were fine.

I tried the training process that was recommended above, and after a few tries, managed to get the driver window to behave. However, the passenger side refuses to get trained. IN fact, it now does not move up sometimes by either button (driver door button or passenger door button). It does go up after several tries, and it is getting worse (it started with the first pull not working and then now it is up to 2-3 pulls sometimes before the window will go up)

Any ideas? Appreciate your input.

The motor might be going bad. Can you hear the motor trying to raise the window when you pull up on the switch?
