Default Connected the VCM for the first time...

Just posting to let you all know I connected my VCM to the ol' car for the first time. To tell you the truth, after reading about other people's experiences using IDS, I was a bit apprehensive as I was afraid it would be confusing and I'd mess something up.

I'm glad to report that nothing of the sort happened. I read a few instructions when I first got it almost a month ago, and today the entire process was pretty simple. Once you begin to navigate through the different functions, it makes more sense. Granted, I didn't dig super deep into it, but I did change some things. I disabled the seat belt chime, automatic door locks, mirror dip feature, and the automatic electronic park brake. There were no glitches and I was surprised at how quickly it updated the car and how quick the whole process was overall.

Another thumbs up to Cambo for completely setting it up for me, all the way from purchasing the laptop he recommended and thought would be the best from experience, to installing all the neccessary software, to shipping the computer and VCM from AU despite the fact that my Paypal didn't go through when it was supposed to, yet he still trusted me enough to ship it regardless.

Last I checked he still had a few of these VCM's left. I haven't used anything else, but I can tell you it did a flawless job.

Also a thank you to rosskuhns for offering his power supply to me when he saw I was looking for one. Without being asked, this guy even refunded me some money when he thought the product he was shipping didn't meet the described condition he gave (I wouldn't have even noticed the minor things), plus he sent it two day shipping just so it would be here before I left for the holidays.

Just thought I'd brag a bit on these members. I knew this forum had a lot of standup members, but it wasn't until I began transactions with some of them that their true light shined. Quite honestly, I am impressed. Thank you all for providing such a great atmosphere here!

Good to know, welcome to the club of happy buyers/users!
What version of IDS-SDD do you use?

It was the latest one you could use without the subscription, so around a 134. I'd have to double check to be sure. Which one do you use?

The last one without subscription is SDD v131.03. This is the one I had installed on my laptop and it works well.
But as Cambo suggested, for some tricky programmings, or to use IDS on older cars having OBD2 (in the 1996-2003 range) it may be better to run IDS-SDD v125.3 which is the last one opening native IDS (not through SDD) or even 118 which is the last stand-alone IDS.
You have though to have a specific laptop (or partition) for each IDS-SDD version.
