Default Coolant diagram XJR 2004

Hi guys.

I've had a look in the workshop manual but can't find what I'm looking for.

Trying to locate a coolant leak on RHS of engine bay, could do with a diagram of the cooling system to give me a head start, does anyone have one? Doesn't seem to be much on Google either.

The leak is not obvious from above the engine bay looking down.

Any help appreciated.

I'm also facing a slight leakage. I found one at point 8 in the picture.
Still looking to find the other one.

Cheers. Mine seems to be nearer the bulkhead.

Common coolant leaks on the AJ33 include the outlet pipe/thermostat assembly and the return hoses to the EGR valve that run under the inlet manifold.

After a cold soak, use a cooling system pressure tester to pressurise the system to 1 bar, and as pressure drops, search for leaks.

Thanks very much for the info! It's using 2 litres every 10 minutes, so it's a big leak.

(I'm not driving it btw, just needed to get it home)

Rear-engine leak sources for the supercharged 4.2 include:
  1. EGR
  2. throttle body
  3. HVAC lines (far back against the firewall)
  4. the dreaded valley hose
To inspect you'll probably need to take off the windshield cowling and remove some plastic firewall bits. I'd assess the 1-3 first. Number 4, if that's the issue, requires removing the supercharger.

If you are losing coolant that quickly, you might want to rent a pressure tester, such a large leak could show up under pressurization. Good luck with it.

Thanks so much! Thankfully the dreaded valley hose was replaced when the supercharger was ported. Will check the others out. Don't suppose you have a diagram of where they are?

Another thing, the leak isn't constant, only seems to happen when the engine us up to temp, not sure if that makes a difference or not...

Well, up to temp includes up to pressure... The coolant is not under pressure when cooled down and won't force its way through a pinhole leak.

Good point! Thanks for that.

Another thing, what temp should the cars run at when cruising? I had the torque app running last week and the car was sitting at 102°C, which went down to about 96 when I turned the heating to maximum and turned the blower to full. Could my thermostat be faulty or does this seem ok?

I don't recall the exact numbers but your temp range feels normal to me. Assuming you're at 2 ATM (14 psi of radiator pressure) the boiling point of (pure) water is 120 degrees C, I believe mixed coolant is a bit higher.

Guys, it looks like there is a leak coming from around the air box, I can see dripping but I can't see where its coming from. This sounds like a burst pipe, right? I mean I can't see any components there that could be leaking on the diagrams I have.

Just updating for future reference (I hate it when threads suddenly go dead without a resolution), the pipe is part number C2C24690 and looks easy to replace. All I have to do is find a new genuine one in the UK.

If anyone has one please let me know.

Thanks for all your help guys, you're all great 😃
