Default Curious CD Player fault?

Dear Forum,
I have now replaced my failed Head Unit with a used one with an excellent screen. However, the integral CD Player accepts a disc, but it only goes in halfway? It then actuates the player and spins slowly (still halfway in) before being ejected? If I try pushing it in, it comes against some sort of hard stop? As if something is in there? I have tried inserting a thin plasic tool, and that goes all the way in (and again, actuates the player), but without hitting anything?
Anyone experienced anything like this, please?

I have not had the the problemmyself, but, in order not to damage anything, I would remove the audio unit and open it up to see what the problem could be.

Yes, I know that it is a bit of a pain to remove everything again, but better safe than sorry...

Best regards,

Thomas

Thomas,
Of course you are perfectly right; however, my CD Changer in the boot has not worked for some time and I have engineered myself Android Auto and bluetooth music, so I think I will just live with it if the solution is not a simple one?
But thank you...You are right!
Just like everybody else on this Forum, I probably have more urgent issues dealing with all of the crumbling plastics that abound in all of these moderately modern cars!

Seems unlikely, but could my failed boot CD Changer be the problem...All part of the same optic network?

I don't think so, according to your description of the problem to me it seems to be a mechanical problem of the CD player in the head unit.

Best regards,

Thomas

The CD player will need a small electric motor to drive the disc in and out
(my changer has two) and in my experience these are the parts that wear out.

I haven't opened the head unit before, but are there any small drive belts in the CD loader mech?
In my years of repairing all manner of electronics, drive belts and rubber idlers were always the primary culprits of older mechanisms.

However,if the mech employs direct drive motors, then yes the motor could be shot, but there may also be a mechanical leaf switch or optical sensor that detects the presence of the disc being inserted that is simply not sensing and playing ball.

Thanks Meirion1,
The disc is drawn in by the motor (albeit only half way) and the screen indicates that the player has recognised the presence of a disc; however, after slowly spinning the (halfway-in) disc for a few seconds, the motor ejects it?

Thank you for your reply. Please see my above response to Meirion1; the screen does indicates that a disc has been inserted?
I'm wondering whether there is a central 'post' that the inserted disc spins upon and this post is retracted when the disc is drawn in and then pops up to secure it once it is fully in? I can picture said post (if it exists) failing to retract and blocking the discs full entry?
But then again, perhaps I have a fertile imagination, backed up by very limited technical knowledge!
