Does anyone have one of these for a 2004 XJ8 (X350)
The other day I went to close my trunk/boot and a 6 inch piece of the plastic covering broke off in my hand. Upon close inspection, the entire piece was spider webbed with cracks all originating from the license plate screw holes. I decided to remove it and try to glue it together but when I did it broke into a dozen pieces. I found a couple of listings on eBay but most of them were for the entire lid which I don't need. I just need the plastic cover. According to the Jaguar parts shop online, they have been out of stock since 2018. See attached image.
Thanks Plastic was brittle as glass. I think this one is beyond repair. It is held on by a few screws along the top of the chrome trim and then had black plastic slider clips that hold it along the bottom. The previous owner had put in oversized screws in the license plate holes and small fractures developed and eventually made it all the way across to the edges where they started breaking off.
It's puzzled me for a while that there appear to be 2 license plate widths (not related to X350 vs X358). My own wider one appears to be metal.
So, what's left of your trunk?
Gregory,
Go to https://car-part.com/ and find a yard close to you with a car. You can try to look for one in the same color as your car, or find the closest one and get it painted. Oversized screws created stress in the plastic. Use the correct size screws on the new part.

One thing I've learned on plastic parts; buy used from the rust belt. the ones from the south are as sun baked as yours. I had a dash panel in my pickup go like you are describing, couldn't handle it without ending up with a pile of dust. I bought a replacement from Pennsylvania, and it was as sturdy as new.
As far asI know both versions are made of plastic.
When I was looking for an X350 I also saw a car prevously running in Japan, which also had the small numberplate like in the US. The dealer told me that you can swap the two versions without problems when I mentioned that I actually prefer the"European" look with the wider numberplate recess.
