Unhappy Dome/Map light lens re-install impossible

Hello All!

I've been trolling here for awhile and learning a great deal about my wonderful 2008 XJ VDP and have attempted and succeeded at several repair/restore jobs I would not have been able to do without this board. Thank you all!

I think I f'd up today. I was doing the LED interior/exterior lamp replacement, as a few of my older bulbs were blown and figured to go LED.

I read a few of the posts here on how to do it and all went fine, EXCEPT, for the overhead center dome lights. I pried off the lens, with a bit of difficulty, replaced the lamps, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the lens back in place. It just doesn't go back in its slot as there is a lip that is meant to be on top of the frame.

Does anyone know how I can get this lens back in place? Do I need to remove the entire overhead console, if so, any tips???

I'm really lost and appreciate the words of wisdom, always!

Thanks!
Chris

PS: The overhead console has sunroof, park, shade, garage buttons.

Chris,
Yes, you need to remove the whole overhead console. See, microphone problem thread on how to do this.

Pull down on the console from the end nearest the windscreen, then slide it toward the windshield to disengage it from the rear end. There was one connector for wiring on mine.
Unit needs to be reinstalled to supply light to bulbs, but you can just push the front end in to test all is well before mounting it properly.
I have problems getting the LED festoon lamp to light up in that unit.
Map lights work well though.

Update, gleaned from another thread, here is the BT module install with a guide to removing the overhead console :-)

Have you tried flipping the festoon lamp? They are polarity dependent and I also had to pinch the clips to prevent the festoon lamp from falling off.

Yes -- all my swaps were polarity dependent. The LED replacements for the festoon isn't an exact fit, so you do need to pinch the holders a bit. Looks great.
