Default engine date 2002 Super V8

I m thinking about purchasing this Jaguar but the seller does not if the engine has plastic tensioners or not . All i have is the VIN number. How can I be sure without opening the engine? SAJDA25B32MF45078
Thanks, Terry

You are in the wrong forum section. This is for the aluminum sedans.

I don't recall exactly but seems like that there's an assembly date encoded into the engine number stamping and after a certain date, around August of 2001 they were supposedly OK. There is a post on here somewhere with exact details that I recall reading many years ago in possibly either the x308 or x100 subforums. But those engines could have been in inventory for a few months so you have to check the engine date code and not go by the body assembly date.
