Engine swap from 04 XJ8 to 08 XJR
I'm currently in the process of swapping my 04 XJ8 engine and found a good price for a 08 XJR engine. I have already bought it and I have seen a few differences. I plan to add the Super to it eventually but for now I want to get it to run. I noticed the VVT solenoids are not on the 08 engine as well as the knock sensor that have different ends. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
Unable to provide the information that you need.
But the 04; & 05's are a little different from the later models.
They are listed seperatly on the readers.
The Jaguar specific readers give a lot less information.
For my 04's motor, compaired to the 07's

Not sure but?
The 4.2L SC engine got VVT for 2006 and up? So the 2008 SC 4.2L V-8 should have VVT?
The 2004 4.2 NA engine had VVT from the beginning?
Are you trying to install a SC engine in place of a NA one?
You do know that without the SC that engine will be a dog?
I know as I had a 2005 STR and broke the SC belt once. Car will operate fine without the SC but it will be slow!

From what little i know about it, from folks asking about adding a supercharger to the existing engine, is that the engines are internally VERY different, and the electronics are different as well, meaning the control unit from a non-SC car won't know {bleep} about a supercharged engine, even if installed without a working supercharger.
Which brings up the question about "I plan to add the Super to it eventually." Can you even do that? Remove the supercharger hardware and put on a conventional intake manifold? All that plumbing up there is completely different: where the coolant hoses attach, the location of the throttle body, EGR, and all of that. And as was point out above from someone who lost the belt, the SC engine will be a pig without the SC.
This is a really deep rabbit hole, I'm afraid. NA and SC engine are NOT interchangeable, aside from the model year gap. I would sell the XJR engine on and find the correct engine for the car.

I would listen and read wfooshee post several times before going any further.
I can't add anything and fully agree this will not work and you are WAY, WAY over your head!
Just buy another car as you will be far ahead financially compared to this Frankenstein your planning to build.
