The Fram Air Filter CA9513 designated for the 4.2 liter NA V8 is too long. It's not your imagination. At 11.78" X 6.74" it's too long and you would have to crush it to close the lid. The designated WIX Air Filter at 11.88" x 6.72" is also too long. As you can see below it's too long by a couple of pleats:

However, the designated STP Air Filter SA9513 (also know as Champion or Luber-Finer) at 11.65" X 6.73" fits perfectly. Available at Autozone for $14.89.

You can also purchase an AIR FILTER OEM JAGUAR #AJ82766at the dealer for $25.

Just don't break the lid trying to fit a filter that's too long. I would also recommend removing the air pipe from the lid and throttle body to allow for more movement of the lid.

Ed,

That's weird! The Wix 42261 fits our '04 XJR perfectly. I just had to be sure to tuck the foam rubber seal in completely at the left end (where the air cleaner lid is hinged):

According to the EPC, the air cleaner housings are different for the N/A and S/C cars, but the air filter itself is the same part number for both, AJ82766. The air filters I bought in Jaguar boxes were made by Visteon (a former Ford division), but Mann is a longtime OEM of Jaguar air filters and I wouldn't hesitate to use their filters in an X350.

Cheers,

Don

Strange that the part numbers are correct and spec is longer
Some where in the manufacturing process about three extra pleats where added that increased the length by about a 1/4". The Fram and STP(Champion) filter have almost the same part number but are different lengths except for the CA or SA prefix.

It's happened before to members. In his pictures you can also see the replacement is longer, which probably caused him to break the lid.

So the Fram I ordered on line from Parts Geek, now I have to mail it back. I then compared the filters before leaving the store. That's how I turned this 10 minute job into 2+ hours ordeal.
