Default Front air problem/strange code

So I have searched and I am still researching but I figured I would post a thread to try to find out more info on my problem. Car is an 04 xj8 and the front suspension is not working properly. I am actually an auto tech and I have access to a snap on verus scanner which has a lot of features and info on the air suspension system for this car. I can read all kinds of parameters and everything looks good, no erractic readings or issues. The scanner also has test modes where I can command the suspension to inflate and deflate and that all works fine. I can inflate the front and rear independently and the readings all indicate the proper height. The car will sit parked at the proper height all day long with no issue. However as soon as I try to move it the front promptly drops all the way down. The back stays up. So it doesn't seem to be a leak or issue with the shocks or compressor, but rather an electrical issue. In addition the scanner does have options for customer mode and transportation or service mode. However when I try to enter these modes the scanner will say success- completed but the car does nothing. I do have one code and this code maintains even after erasing codes and disconnecting the battery. The code is in the air suspension system and it reads - ECU in manufacturer sub state. I would suspect the ECU then needs flashed or calibrated in some manner. There are no local jag dealers to me and the closest few are all booked out several weeks. Has anyone experinced this code and this problem? Thanks

If you have a car 'up to VIN G23871', are ALL 4 suspension level sensors attached and functioning?? Early X350 cars have 4 sensors. Later cars have 3 sensors. (right front deleted)

2004 MY-on XJ range vehicles from VIN G26872, will be built without the front right side air suspension height sensor, bracket and electrical harness. A revised air suspension module is used with the three sensor system. No air suspension functionality is affected.

You might try reading ALL the suspension TSBs that I and others have uploaded to this site and Gus has them on his site as well.

C2780 ?

C2780
Control module in manufacturer sub-state
  • Control module programming
Programme the control module using the Jaguar approved diagnostic system.

Lots of reading here but a happy ending, well sort of:

I just googled "Control module in manufacturer sub-state"

Yes 2780 code I think. And it does have 4 sensors and all are fixed and reading correctly.

Yep, if that's the code, then you'll need someone with SDD to program ASM
