Fuel Tank Help
2005 Vanden Plas 4.2 non supercharged. just installed a new Jaguar pump module in the right side but not a new Transfer pump.
Left ( drivers) side fuel tank is empty, Gas gauge dropped to 0 and yellow light came on, Car runs fine, right ( Passenger ) side tank has fuel. My question is,
1. Is this normal operation, 2. do I need to check Transfer pump operation, if so how? Found the sending unit on left side faulty. Thanks in advance

The job of the 'transfer-pump' is to keep fuel in the right side where the electric supply pump is.
Sounds like one (or both) gauge senders have issues. They are supposed to AVERAGE the fuel level from both sides.
Try reading each level sender from the INSTPK using engineering test mode??

Thanks Bob for the reply. I know the left sender is faulty and will get one in the morning. I'm sure that will fix the fuel gauge problem.
My diagnostic information said that the high pressure pump supply's fuel to the left side and the transfer pump removes it back to the right side. It was just mind blowing when I pulled the left sender up and found no fuel in that side.
If I understand you correctly the transfer pump will pull fuel from left and move it to right, up until the left side has no fuel to supply. and that happens around 1/4 of a tank. anything above 1/4 free spills to left via the top crossover of the tank. is this correct?

When the transfer pump fails you run out of fuel with a 1/4 tank indicated.
We used to get cars into the dealer that ran out of fuel on the road but would start right up when the tow truck dropped off the car.
We figured out that the fuel was spilling into the right side when lifted/jostled by the flatbed tow truck.
A replacement transfer pump and down the road again.
