Unhappy Gas Gauge quit working help!

So it's been a while and I've only run out of gas twice. I had this thread done I thought but went back to look at it is not there, if it shows up, sorry for the repost.

Where should I start? Where are the wires locted that go to the tank? When I replaced one of the rear struts, it seemed to flicker and worked for a day.

Step by step instructions would be great.

There are two tank sensors on my 2004 XJR. each one is located under the rear seat in the saddle style gas tank. Have you gone thru the onboard diagnostics to test how each sensor reads? If the sensors stop reading, you can check it periodically. The sensors have been replaced once each by the two prior owners of my car! And I replaced one myself. The initial problem on my car was that after refueling the sensors did not immediately indicate full, then they would give an orange warning light since they went beyond the normal reading range, after driving some time they would go back to the normal range, but I never trusted the readings until I replace one sending unit. Until you resolve the issue, use the trip setting and get gas every 300 miles!

How difficult was it to replace the sensors? How do you remove the back seat?

Isn't there also some condition on the XJR where if one pump fails the other will send most of the fuel to the other tank and the gauge goes faulty?
I haven;t got the manual to hand, but try looking that one up.

Supercharged models have 2 fuel pumps one to push and one to pull. The tank is all one unit in the x350 models but has two sides the rear seat is removed with four clips that can be removed by gently prying the seat up. The fuel tank sides are opened by removing bungs that spin off
