Default Head Gasket replacement

Ok, I replaced the head gaskets on a 1998 Jaguar xj8. Got it back together. White smoke at start up. No codes.
No sweet smell coming out exhaust pipes and no bubbles coming from over flow tank.
Could I possibly hook up a coolant hose wrong?
Car fired right up no other issues.

You might get more help if you posted your question into the right forum.

Best regards,

Thomas

First.. check that your oil fill cap and EGR system are in good nic.

THEN . (ANY IC engine)... BRIEF initial smoke cloud is usually contaminents - solvents, penetrants, cleaners & such from the rebuild....
.. and/or ....left-overs trapped from the failure that dictated a rebuild was needed. There can be a LOT from that source.

That should go away as soon as the temps get up to where the system can clear it, and not return.

SUSTAINED white smoke, and you may have fitted a new gasket that is unable to seal a warped, eroded - worst-case cracked - head ...or even block.

What had your straightedge checks revealed on head AND block... before you fitted the new gasket? Any signs of cracks?

If you have no answer, this go? You will, next time.

That simple, usually.

Learn and live.
