Hello All
Hello All,
I am the proud owner of a 2007 Jaguar XJR with 80,000 miles on it. I've had a 1994 XJ12 but the 2007 XJR is a whole different beast. So after owning it for 2 days, I hammered the throttle at about 5MPH and the following things occurred:
1) Car accelerated for about 1/2 a second, car lurched, check engine light came on and the engine died.
The car was in D at the time with the traction control on and NOT in SPORT mode.
I coasted into my driveway, put it in park, and turned the engine off. After approx. 2 minutes, turned the car back on, and there was no check engine light and the car ran fine.
Im still new to this car, so dod I do something wrong? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Eric Schutte

Welcome to the best kept super saloon secret.😎
You did nothing wrong; with normal maintenance and care, these cars can be thrashed for hundreds of thousands of miles without serious trouble.
As your EML illuminated there should be one or more stored codes which will help locate the problem. Read the code(s) via the OBD port and post your findings here. It’s probably nothing too onerous to deal with; a dirty MAF sensor or choked catalytic converters. The latter not too likely at such a low mileage.

Hope you like your XJR but can you do the repairs?
If not it will be expensive car to own.
As posted above you will need something to read codes. The factory setup is SDD which is a big project. There are aftermarket scanners that can do a good bit too. So yes please get the codes read and then erase them all. Then drive again like when you had the problem above. We want to only see fresh codes from your current problem.
Hard to say but you might consider a plug replacement and you also might have some COP (coil) problems. But let's check the codes first before buying any parts.
You did not ask but I would for sure put a transmission fluid change on your list of maintenance projects.
Simple stuff too like have you changed the fuel filter? Most people don't and I have found cars with 100K+ miles on them with the original fuel filter!
