Hello from New Orleans
What is the average brake-in mileage for a XJ8 engine? What should i do to preserve the paint, my car is already 4.5 years old. The car sits out in the sun all day when my wife is at work. What car wax is a good to use to slow down or stop wasting away my car's paint. One more question, if i have to get the Jag towed how should have it towed four wheels lifted, front end ,or back end tow. I think the manuel says that you shouldn't front end tow this car.
This car is no toy, it's like Dinner at a Fine Restaurant, you just totally enjoy it.
This car is sweet!!!

When I was in college, I worked 30-40 a week taking car of Mr. Richguy's car collection. He had a ten car garage with a time clock... The more hours I spent detailing his cars, the better. I took a course in detailing before I started working on his cars and he was his own Meguiars distributor. We had our own washer and dryer for the car towels...
Here's a few take away's you can use as a private car owner. I don't want to go into too much detail and much of it depends on how much time you want to spend. A "proper" car wash (vacuum, dust, wash and dry) should take 4 hours. Not everyone has 4 hours, so... A proper detail (not Concours) should be 10 hours.
Detailing the paint comes down to how much time and effort you want to put into it. Seeing how you are down south, I would recommned this yearly schedule.
4 details a year (monthly if time or money is of little concern):
*Each detail should include a clar bar on all painted surfaces, lenses, sunroof, and windows. Don't forget to clar bar chrome trim.
*Each detail should include carnuba wax on all painted surfaces
*Every other detail should include a hand glaze (Meguiars No. 2 or 3M Hand Glaze) after the clay bar, before the wax.
*Every detail should polish/wax the wheels.
*Silicone spray wipe all weatherstriping
*Leather preservative on leather each detail and "Pledge" wood each detail.
***Tip***
1. Use a cleaner/polish/wax (1 step product) on the wheels, under the trunk & hood, and inside the door jams. This will save over an hour plus on each detail with little downside.
2. Buy a sun screen for windshield. The custom fitted ones work and fit great.
3. Buy all detailing products from an auto body supply shop. You'll get pro quality stuff and prices that make Autozone kind of places look like robbery. Meguiars, Mothers or 3M are safe bets.
