Help! Engine rattle sound diagnosis on 2005 Super V8
Hello Fellow Jaguar Experts,
Need help diagnosing the problem, Friday morning my 2005 Super V8 started making a engine rattle/clatter sound. Noise is present during idle and driving and appears on the bottom vs top.
Car has clocked 115K miles, checked fluid levels which are normal, no faults or check engine lights are on. Added extra oil to see if helps with sound, made no difference.
The only issue I was experiencing recently was engine vibrations esp with the AC engaged. I was suspecting that it is either a bad engine mounts or transmission mount.
I recorded videos from the engine top (idle), bottom (idle) and revs where there rattle becomes pretty noisy.
Ignore the oil leak on the garage floor, it is from the steering rack which is due for a replacement.

Could it be the torque converter?, vehicle drives without slipping gears, though possibly it feels like there is reduction in power. I am not driving the vehicle until i can determine if it needs to be towed to a shop or can be driven there.
Regards,
Frank

Yes, it was surprisingly the left catalytic converter that had gone bad and causing the rattle. Unfortunately, since the car is in California, I could not source a factory style cat and ended up with a generic replacement. The engine never felt the same after that likely due to having mismatched cats and O2 sensors.

I took it to a local muffler shop after diagnosis for replacement. If that is your issue (i.e the rattling sound is from a busted cat) I recommend that you attempt to source a proper replacement. Ebay has them for sale but I could not locate a seller that would ship to California. (Example below)
