The end of an era, our cars.
The newer Jaguars just don't have the same look.
Always liked their look.
The Lucas electronics on my Triumph motorcycle.
Plus the way the valve assembly was designed to fail
Soured me on British vehicles.
Then Ford purchased them.
To study the Land Rover.
To build their aluminum pick up truck, i m h o
We get a great deal on their experimental cars

He also designed the basic body shape of the F-Type, IMHO the best looking Jag ever and one of the best looking cars currently on the road regardless of make.
But I may be just a little biased!

I'm sorry to tell you that by the time Ian Callum succeeded the late Geoff Lawson at Jaguar in 1999, the design of the X350 body was done.
Callum was told that no changes were possible, and he apparently accepted that. He did, however oversee the X358 update, and possibly the X356 changes too.
Ian Callum put his favorite devices on the X358; the side gills, and the 'blade' chrome strip between the tail lights.
I have an X358 LWB, and I think it looks more balanced than the SWB. I think the X358 is less fussy than the X350.

My mistake, Pete M; I had (at some time) watched this video and assumed (wrongly it seems) that Callum must have had something to do with the design:
Whoever was responsible, they succeeded (in my opinion) in designing a proper XJ; lighter, faster and more economical than previous models and with decent headroom and boot space!

Hi EsRay,
There were a number of things driving the design of the X350, and Ford, as owners of Jaguar, had a very large input.
Eoin Doyle has a site 'Driven to Write' and he has written extensively about Jaguar and their designs.

This link covers many of the issues you have raised.
