Well I got rear ended the other day. Anyone have experience going through a repair or total? Looks like a total but not done with it yet. Just short of 3 months of fun, over like that. Dang.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you are OK and the only damage was vehicular. Post photos for opinions on repairs.
Depends how bad it is. Anything can be fixed it just depends on the cost.
Your right, but they did total it. I've been wrestling with having someone fix it for less so it would come in under the 75% to value state requirement, but I would forever regret requesting a shoddy job. I guess I could accept the lower payout minus depreciation and pay out of my pocket for the rest of the repair. That sounds like bad money after good. I could accept the depreciation value and for a few dollars drive it with the back end crunched, that seems redicilous.
I've read about Diminished Value which seems to be a "thing" in my state of SC. I've contacted several attorneys. The insurance Co never offered me any rental car $. I can't drive it because the mufflers are touching the rear tires, I need to pursue that.
Anynything else I should consider? In the end I just want to be made whole with it fixed because of the negligent driving of their client.

As you haven't shown a side view, I assume there is no distortion to the rear wings and everything is limited to the rear end.
The luggage lid can never be straightened but sourcing a good used replacement should be straightforward. Similarly with the rear bumper cover. The difficulty and certainly expense is likely to be the energy absorbing rear bumper fitted to US specification models.

It's a lot more than the immediately visible rear panel. The crossmember and decking panels will be damaged and the rear of the trunk floor is clearly damaged. New parts will be NLA and considerable labour even to remove and then fit used replacements.
I'd get what I could from the insurer and walk away from this one. Repair will be costly, difficult and even if done to a high standard will inevitably affect subsequent market value or even saleability.

I agree with Graham. Make the best settlement possible and walk away from from that car.
In your shoes I’d be scouring the the advertisements far and wide for another XK8 / XKR. You appear to have some affection for these cars, so take your insurance payout and use it (+ some of your own funds if need be) to get the best car you can find.
Getting back in the saddle as soon as possible is the best medicine for getting over your loss.

Graham, as sad as this makes me, I feel your 100% logically correct. It appears the quarter panels actually wrap across the back and as so are both damaged in the rear end section. Now I need to negotiate hard possibly enlist an attorney if financially responsible and move along. Thank you.

You can use what you leaned about the car and find a great replacement. While the used car market is hot right now what people are really fighting over is basic transportation not Jaguars.

I am not familiar with the Diminished Value approach in South Carolina, but I have been through two different Diminished Value cases here in North Carolina. One was in 2009 (I was hit) and the other was in 2014 (my wife was hit). I served as my own attorney in both cases. The 2009 case went to court because the insurance company (Geico) refused to settle with me for a reasonable amount during the negotiation period. It took nearly five months to get to court but was well worth it because I won that case in less than 45 minutes once I got up in front of the judge. The 2014 case was settled without going to court when the insurance company (Allstate) learned that I had won the 2009 case handily....
The key is to be meticulous in your documentation, succinct and convincing in your presentation, and find an appraiser who specializes in Diminished Value to do the appraisal (and bring him to court with you if your case goes that far). He and I made short work of the opposing attorney's position during our turn on the witness stand for the 2009 case. My appraiser's fee was $275 for each of the two appraisals, a drop in the bucket compared to the settlements I received....
Most folks fear going to court and therefore miss out on rightfully-earned Diminished Value awards due to someone else's gross negligence. I am a Type A bulldog who never gives up, remains in complete control of the situation, and I thoroughly enjoyed the adversarial process. Very glad I pursued both cases, and the two separate Diminished Value awards I earned still serve as my Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs Fund for all four of our vehicles today....
I'm not an Attorney...I'm an Insurance Agent....What I would do is Attorney-up...go for Diminished Value...Also, could it be that your Neck or Shoulder might be in need of a Physician? Surely that sudden jolt did injure something....Ask for a replacement Car, Doctor's Bills, and the Attorney's Fees! You are innocent in this Accident and you should be made Whole! Don't let them push you around!!!
