I am heading home shortly to install a rebuilt steering rack on my 04 XJR. Any advice as I tear into this job?
I am installing new tie rod ends (outer) and will get it aligned when done. I'll be using synthetic ATF.
Hopefully it goes well as it doesn't look like a really difficult job...

 

count how many turns the current tie rods are in (or count as you take them out), then put the new ones into the new rack the same # of turns for each side; this will get you in the ballpark on alignment for toe in case you can't get it in right away.

 

All done. Pretty easy job.
