Interior Lighting Issues
Hello,
I have a 2005 Jaguar XJ8 L that I recently purchased, and now I'm trying to fix a few issues so I can enjoy it.
I noticed that if I turned on the left overhead map light, and then the right map light, the right map light would be dim if both lights were on. I figured maybe it was a bad ground. I also noticed that the lights over the rear doors don't come on when the doors are open. The only interior lighting that was working was the map lights, the lights under the dash for the driver and passenger, and the lights in the bottom of the door panels.
Last night I decided to pull down the console to replace the light bulbs (what a horrible design) with LED's to brighten up the inside of the car at night. Sometimes LED's only work one way, so I wanted to test them before reinstalling the console since it's hard to take down and I don't want to break it. I attached (4) jumper wires between the (4) pins in the light fixture and the (4) connections on the console so I wouldn't have to reinstall it to make those connections. I don't see any other connections that aren't being made with the console hanging down. Neither map light works. I replaced the LED's with regular bulbs, and they still don't work.
The center button in the console that should turn on the center bulb and the rear lights over the rear doors hasn't worked since I bought the car.
I tested the map light over the left rear door last night and it worked, but today it's not working. I used a multimeter and can tell the switch works, but there isn't any power.
I also noticed that the lights at the bottom of the doors on the passenger side of the car works, but not the lights at the bottom of the doors on the driver's side.
EDIT: The driver's side footwell lights in the door started working. Not sure what I did. The courtesy light switch in the center of the console makes the footwell lights under the dash turn on and off, but nothing else.
I also saw where people have installed the rear lights over the rear doors on the wrong sides. Mine are marked with a 'R' and 'L' on them. They're on the proper sides and the map switch is towards the front of the vehicle.
Any ideas why my map lights don't work, or why the rear courtesy lights and the light in the center of the overhead console don't work?
