Default jag tech needs advice from other techs on x350 problem

i have a 04 x350 that intermittantly all lights come on dash gear selector wont come out of park, gearbox fault is displayed abs fault is displayed suspension goes hard, steering goes hard car basicaly goes into limp home mode as i said this is an intermittant fault

all faults showing up on ids are can busrelated faults, iam aware of a tsb regarding connector pin retention on the can bus circuit however this car id displaying different faults listed in the tsb also my car is out side the chassis range listed in the tsb

another tech has told me that he once had a similar problem and the cause was a faulty instrument cluster has any other jag techs experienced a fault like this

its hard to diagnose when its so intermittant

also ive checked resistance on the can network and it appears to be fine

As you probably know, all the problems you report are linked by the CAN network. The instrument cluster, the dynamic stability control module, which controls the steering angle sensor, the ABS, the J-Gate module, the air suspension module , and so on. The signs you have are of a classic bad connection or harness fault. All these modules are not bad. I am no tech, but I would start wiggling wires and checking harnesses in the CAN bus. Even if the car is out of the TSB range, it could still be related to the TSB.

When I get a fault like this, I get mad and start grabbing harnesses and pulling them hard with the car running, like grabbing the cat after he claws your favorite chair! If it's going to do it, it will do it then. I just watch for signs of a failureduring each pull. I try to narrow the work area by finding out who has been in there before and where they were. The problem is often due to a ham-fisted tech working on something else, opening a connector and not pushing it home before buttoning up the car.

Hey mots,

I guess that clears the way to call you an applesauce-fisted do-it-yourselfer?
