[QUOTE=Spannerman;1033822]Another issue for the DIY home mechanic in the modern era - is that the one element you can not escape is parts prices.

So true. Parts are pricey indeed. My model was $91k new long before I owned it. I expect the parts to be pricey (even the plastic parts). Parts will come down some over time, but these cars aren't mass produced to the level of a Honda and they are luxury redefined IMNSHO so they will always be comparatively expensive and aftermarket will have it's limitations.

Most of my repairs are DIY so that helps and I feel the pain of those who have to rely solely on mechanics. Fortunately for me, my repairs have been minor.

If you believe Jag parts are expensive own a Bentley. Shop labor at an Indy shop starts at $130/hr and Dealer is about $200/hr. In addition, maintenance is not oil and brakes. It's really preventative maintenance as in aviation. Most exotics fall into this category. Jag is not that bad if you have the income to support the repairs.

They do seem to depreciate harder than other iron, but they also seem to wear quicker as well, mechanical reputation aside.

I'd love to talk to the headliner QC guy and have him meet his counterpart at Land Rover. "Please explain why the headliner in this LR (Disco) 3 / 4 stays put for 100K+++++ without incident, yet the Jag's starts to come apart about half that life (or less) and the material looks identical"????? HA!

I love the car, but one has to think once in a while, whilst the wood surround around the sunroof controls falls onto your head; Seriously, this is a $90K car?

I only buy British cars, but it does make you cringe once in a while. But how boring would it be to be confined to reliable, vanilla box every day, where I can't say "wait, wait, wait, let's play, what's the CEL code today kids!"

Cheers,

Jeff
