Default jaguar xj 2004 rear suspension problem

hi guys, i been having a problem with the rear suspension on my xj. over the past few weeks it has slowly lowered, i dismissed it at first but now it literally sitting on the ground. the front is fine. i have looked over the forum questions and answers and seems to be a common problem but more so for the front. can anyone here offer any advice, ive tried disconnecting the battery and fuse but hasnt made a difference. would i need to maybe replace the compressor for the rear? any help would be much appreciated.

You may have a leaking spring unit, or maybe a duff suspension height sensor. There is a single air compressor supplying the reservoir in the trunk which supplies all spring units with compressed air. The system tries to keep the car level even when the engine is shut down.

Do you have any fault message on the dash and yellow light ?

If you end up needing a strut and don't mind going used give me a call. I just got this 2004 in with 35k miles.

What a shame!

Can anyone explain what the problem is with repairing aluminum cars?

1. YOu can't pull out the folded metal, or at least it is really difficult

2. Car is rivetted and glued together, so all panel joins have to be remade, rivets drilled out and replaced, more glue used, and so on. Upshot is it's too expensive against the value of the car. Cheaper for the insurance company to write it off. Basically, you're repairing an aircraft fuselage.

I just dropped off my '04 VDP this morning. I noticed the car was leaning on the drivers side and I hear air at the driver rear tire. When I spoke with the service tech this morning, he told me they see problems with the driver rear and passenger front often. I know my compressor is fine, I hear it running when I start the car. But I got the air suspension fault light when driving this weekend. I'll update when I get the dreaded call this afternoon.

Got the call and I'm not too broke. The rear air spring was leaking so it needs replacing. $880 for parts and labor and she will be done tomorrow. Good luck with your rear end suspension issue.
