Jumpy accelerator pedal
Hi there
Have a 2008 XJ8 and love her but for the touchy gas pedal. I really have to concentrate on feathering it slowly from a start otherwise there is always a jerky nature getting going
Interestingly, my girlfriends 2006 LR3 exhibits the same behavior. Maybe a British thing 😂
Anyway, just curious if this is more my imagination than fact. I assume this is drive by wire and maybe a new TPS would help??
Thanks. Randy

See this thread from some days back:

There seems to be some differences of opinion as to whether this behavior is a "bug" or a "feature." My 2006 XJ8L behaves the same way - requires very light touch on the accelerator to move out smoothly. In my opinion, the computerized throttle response is poorly programmed. However, no one has yet suggested any way to modify the response via software. Before my 2006 XJ8L, I had a 2001 Vanden Plas which accelerated much more smoothly.

I suggest you scan for fault code first-there may be a clue in the result.
My Jag does not have this problem so it's a fault IMO.
It's possibly the pedal I think.

You can see the track in the older design and I guess that the x350 is similar hence possible track fault due to wear.
NB you may need to be a contortionist to change it!

I had a Cadillac that had a touchy gas pedal. Turned out to be the throttle body plate was sticking a tad. So it may be worth checking that. Otherwise from a Jag standpoint I have heard it is a bit of a feature. Due to covid I haven't driven my car in over a year so I can't even remember what mine feels like so I can't say if mine does it or not.
Mine was touchy when I bought it. After a while it learned I didn't want to be a jackrabbit and would accelerate smoothly. While working on it I did a reset at the battery and that lost the learned adaptation. So now I am back to touchy for a while until it learns what I want. These cars are continuously adjusting to the way they are being driven. If your transmission adaptations have been erased it will also affect the touchy feel.
