Default LED parking/daytime running lights A++

I got my leds for the daytime running lamps, my recommendation is that everyone should do this, it looks 100x better. Below are some pics...

1/2 way done, you can see the dingy yellow light vs the bright white leds, the dingy yellow just looks like crap next to the HIDs

Completed...it's tough to get good pics

Whatcha think?

pretty easy, if you have stubby fingers it'll be tough, the thing the bulb is in is long, like 3 inches or more, so you can reach it. On one side of it is a tab you press down, and then it just pulls right now. I picked up the bulb on ebay it was under $9 shipped, took me about 20 minutes to change them.

I bought this one...

you just need to make sure you get a 2825 one, so it fits

Just a caution, LED lamps are not happy with high heat and most LED mfgs will not warrant them if placed in any headlamp enclosure.

Funny you ask today. Because today I pulled up to a store front, and noticed them both flickering pretty bad. Unfortunately, it looks like they are not gonna hold up, must be the heat. I'll be putting back in the other lights tomorrow, cause they look like strobe lights right now, lol

ps...stay tuned for another mod though

Maybe it's not the heat and you'll just have better luck. At least they are cheap. Let me know how they work, maybe I'll get some higher dollar ones if yours work out, cause they really look alot better

Isn't this because most LED's heatsink into the annode so in an enclosure there is no heat disapation?

Wonder if there is enough room to add a heatsink or pipe to cool the bulbs.

When I first saw this thread I wanted to do this upgrade because I think it looks amazing, but then we all found out how the LED reacts in a high temp environment I decided not to. So I did a bit of research and came across this website http://autolumination.com/194.htm according to them the size 194 will fit what we need for the running light bulb which is 2825. Which bulb do you all think would work the best? There are a few that say they are designed for closed higher temp environments.

Does anybody know anything about the LED lights that I linked to in the post above me?

Thanks

I bought new lights to try in mine, ones that are said to be better against the heat. But, I cannot for the life of me, get the bulbs back out. Turns out you turn them counter clockwise to get the adapter out, but I can't do it. I've removed them and put them back in twice now, but now they are stuck in there

Update:

Just put the LED's in and I think it makes a huge difference in the look. I ended up ordering mine from the site that I posted up and they said that these were made for hot enclosed environments so hopefully they hold up and if not I still have the old bulbs.

I upgraded mine a few weeks back, working fine. I got mine from www.iJDMTOY.com Bought the following for my 2006 XJR:
2pr OCB Error Free White LED T-10's ($29.99 per pair) for the license plate lights and the puddle lamps under the mirrors.
1pr D1S HID bulbs ($109.99) color temp 6000k to replace the factory HID bulbs (no need to swap out transformers).
1pr JDM Super White Halogen Xenon bulb size H3 ($19.99) for the fog lights.
1pr JDM White 360 Degree Shine OBC Error Free T-10 LED ($24.99) for the city lights (daytime running lights).
1pr JDM Super White Halogen Xenon bulb size H7 ($19.99) for the high beams.

All bulbs match colorwise and look awesome!! When purchasing these bulbs, I sent the customer service dept an email and they put together a package deal. They combined shipping and gave me 15% off the entire order.
One word of caution: the sylvania lamp guide states that the replacement HID bulb size for the headlights is a D2S. This was wrong. It was a D1S. JDM exchanged them promptly.

Anybody thought about adding some LED lights around the headlights themselves, like the new Range Rovers? Would it look nice or tacky?

Matt,

How are these running lights holding up. Do you have any pics of them installed. I've just upgraded my low beams to HIDS and I need a brighter (6000K) running light to match.

Smile LED update

It's been four months since I did the light swap I described in the thread above. All lights look great and are working perfectly. I strongly recommend this upgrade to all XJR owners.
