We recently acquired an 08 XJ VDP and finally got the opportunity for a good, hard long trip. Did 650 miles the first day, same the next and more on the way back. What a supurb traveler!! Was clocking 28+ mpg on some hilly I-state legs with a 3K trip avg of 27 mpg. Routine 500 mile tanks. Smooth, quiet and comfortable for the older person in the back. I'm now in love with this car!
The only thing I'm confused about is the radio doesn't seem to have the "band" button for a Sat radio link? What am I missing?

The satellite radio is probably fm modulated and not on a band. I would suggest turning on sat radio and then scan through fm frequencies until the radio lands on it.

My guess is that sat radio is either very low or very high in the frequency band.

I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your car!

Default Sat Radio

Glad you're enjoying the car, it's a real pleasure on long highway trips. Satellite requires an add-on Sirius XM radio, it's not integrated into the factory system. Once you purchase and install a radio, you listen to it through an FM station hijacked by the Sirius tuner.

I concur ardi, the x350 & x358 are great long-distant modes of vehicular transportation. I wish I could have spent more time in the back instead of in the driver seat on my 2,500 mile adventure from purchasing it in Minnesota ... but then it was just me on the trip, so I didn't have much choice. How was your first adaptive cruise experience?

I love traveling in mine. I primarily drive my xj8 to work and back. When i travel, which i only travel from south Carolinaback home to Tennessee. Great fuel economy through the mountainous highways. Nevertheless, in December I'm taking the drive again. I won't be driving my jag. Trading my grand cherokee. I've never traveled in it. It will be december and i have a lot of mountain driving. Snow, ice, gravel, mud......jeep.

I love traveling in mine also, in the last 6 weeks I did 3 500 + mile trips and spent the last week as a juror in federal court, having to travel 100+ miles a day. The car is amazing, it's like drivng from your living room sitting in your favorate chair. The milage for such a big powerful car is amazing also, 27 to 30 at 75 mph and being able to exceed 500 miles without fueling.

It is just about perfect. Only drawbacks are adaptive cruise does not let you get close enough to the person in front of you and gas miles are not as good as my VW tdi (about half 20mpg v 40mpg). If you have a super V8 or VDP you can take four tall people in complete comfort.

We actually traded off a Mercedes 350 4Matic for the Jag. I was never really happy with the Merc but in the Midwest it was a safe all-year drive to work car. Much happier with the Jag since we no longer commute to an office.
Another reason for the VDP is that we do move a lot of older folks who were having trouble climbing up into the back of my other car, a Land Rover LR4 and there wasn't really a lot of backseat room in the Merc.
We will be taking the LR this winter since we'll be crossing the Rockies in mid-winter, want to explore Death Valley and the Ca. coastal mountains. It is also a nice driver, but about half the mileage. I think these two are the perfect combo!
