Hi,

I have a 2005 XJR and I would suggest looking for rust spots which are quite expensive to repair, lights (parking and license) which rust out and brakes (Brembo) which need to be replaced every two years. Other than that, I have zero problem with the car.

Not sure where 'rust' comes from, the cars are made from aluminium. However, it is correct that cosmetic corrosion can occur, called "filiform corrosion" (look on internet for description). Main places are: -

- leading edge of trunk lid due to to paint erosion by the lip on the rear screen seal
- creep-out from underneath the above seal by the rear wing
- creep-out from above trunk chrome trim
- door corners, usually creep round from the back face

Stone damage can also cause the above, as per my driver door, now fixed by myself.

Brembo brakes are very expensive in parts compared to standard. Discs will require replacement at some point as well as pads.

Ais suspension has been troublesome for some people, the main component that fails is the compressor. Most cars will be on their 2nd one by now.

Suspension bushes tend to wear prematurely, especially on cars with large diameter wheels and henc low profile tyres

You should have called me. I could have gotten you whatever you want wholesale. AND I happened to have an 04 XJR Black / Black in stock.

Oh well, a day late and a dollar short I suppose.

Anyway, Enjoy the new car!

Take care,

George

I'll keep that in mind when I'm looking for a 2012 XJ Ultimate in 8 years or so!
