Looking for a reconditioned engine install in northern VA
My son was driving my 2004 XJ 8 and the hose from the top of the coolant reservoir broke off. The car ran out of coolant and basically overheated. I took it to my local mechanic who tested it out and did a compression check etc. The head gaskets are blown and the top end needs to be rebuilt. The quote I got was over $4k so I am thinking that a complete reconditioned engine may be the way to go.
I got a jasper engine for my jeep about 20 years ago and it is still going great so I am definitely a fan of jasper.
Anyhow, I am looking for someone in the northern virginia area that can do the job as inexpensively as possible. Also any other recommended replacement engine manufacturers out there worth looking at. Thanks a lot.
cheers
Tim

Look in the bone yards for a known low mile wreck to pull the motor from.
Pull a part in your area?
You do as the name implies, you pull the part from the vehicle.
Unless you know the rebuild people i'd sooner risk a used salvaged motor.

I had a similar situation years ago and found a used engine online, it worked great. Many of our cars end up salvaged for other reasons than the engine, so you should have a good pick of salvaged good engines out there. I have seen quite a few on eBay for less that 1K IIRC.
My thermostat housing was done at 99K and would have broken at the slightest stress, so glad I caught that in time. Not sure why plastic was the choice material here.
