Default Losing the plot - Cabin filter blowing air out?

I was checking to see if my Aux pump worked as part of my due diligence check towards the heater core replacement that will come when I get my tax refund.

I drove the car around a bit to get to engine operating temp. I placed the heat on high and full blower and parked up in the garage.

First thing was I couldn't really tell if the Aux pump was working. The pipe going into it was not as hot as the other water pipes and even touching the Aux pump I could not tell if the pump was whirring around merrily inside. There was also no specific hum/whir from it. Thoughts?

Secondly , when I placed my hand up by the cabin filter area, I felt the air blowing out of the box, which I thought strange because surely it filters the air dragged into the cabin and not out of the cabin?

Have I lost the plot somewhere?

So you are over the engine, hood up, and if you put your hand over the cabin filter compartment (passenger side firewall) you feel air blowing out at you?

Is this what you are saying?

By the way, I just pulled my auxiliary pump yesterday for the same reason. I took off the coolant reservoir and it was pretty easy to get to.

I opened up the end of it and the brushes were shot. I bought $10 worth of brushes at the hardware store and it ran great.

But then I broke it when I put it back together

Point is, take it out and check it. It is easy to do, and it is likely that it will at least need some maintenance.

I think the same motor is used in VW and Ford/Lincoln applications. I found one for $79 online.

That is correct.

I heard the blower going full whack and being the inquisitive soul thought I will check the air is getting sucked in with some pressure.

To my surprise it was blowing out quite fiercely.

????????

Well, I guess let's think it through. The air has to be blowing through the filter, and the positive pressure side would be closest to the cover, as the air would then blow through the filter into the car. So that should be right. I would guess that the seal on the compartment is not air tight any more. I bet if you took the filter out you would notice less air being forced out at you. So it sounds like this is normal.
I don't think you would have a vacuum as you expected. It is a forced air system.

I once again removed the top cover and placed in front of the cabin filter it seems to be blowing air out very hard. cabin filter fitted all snug as its new.

I removed the filter and it still seems to be blowing out not sucking in, but now it just might be my imagination.. Unfortunately I don't have a smoke generator to check.

Maybe its all in my head.... I just noticed an oil leak underneath too, is it never ending?

(I had an Audi A4 TDI that blew 1 side bulb in 10 years, how I miss that reliability, durability and longevity of quality of build now!!).

You r car just wants a close relationship with you.

I stand by my comments on the forced air. There should be no "sucking" as the air is blown in, not pulled.
I believe the air you feel is normal.

Now go look for the oil leak.
