Loud thumping from left rear
I'd appreciate views before I trot off the the workshop to get an opinion.
Basically, I had rear suspension work done recently to replace worn lower bushes on the spring/shock units, and new lower wishbones to cure worn suspension joints in this component. The ball joint on the rear stabiliser link, ( or track arm) was also found to be worn, so this was also replaced.
However, I now get a loud thump from the rear when going over certain depressions in the road, so it does not occur on every bump. Not only this, it seems to occur on the rebound only. It is particularly marked when dropping off one of our speed ramps we unfortunately have all over England to reduce speeds.
Could it be a subframe mounting bush ? If anybody has had similar please let me know what it was. My car is a "Sport" so the ride is harsher than the normal suspension. There has always been some rear suspension noise since I bought the car, but it now seems to have built up to an unacceptable level

Can you jack it up this weekend, remove the wheel, and inspect and take photos? They are easy to post using photobucket.com. Do a lot of wiggling and checking for loose parts. Check the bellows on the air spring. When my left rear blew it blew a big hole in it although it didn't make any noise.
Sorry know late post but did you ever find out what the thump was. As your aware from your post I have just changed my rear wishbone and now I have the se loud thump with small bumps dips in road ect. Was there anything you found or was it the wishbone bushes settling in?
The problem is still there and I still need to sort it out, but other more important issues intervened last year, (now sorted !!). The "crash" occurs then the car drops off a speed bump, or goes over certain shapes of pothole.
Going along on motorways or good roads there is nothing amiss.

I long ago learnt that funny noises with cars never go away, they just get worse, but so far, I have been a bit idle in sorting it out. I did have an inspection done last year, but nothing was found amiss.
An older shock assembly can exceed its operating limit when rapidly totally unloaded causing a bottoming effect internally. That's probably what you are experiencing. Swap it with a new one and test it out...

Whcih would tie in with swapping to comfort suspension from the current sport springs. I am considering this, but have to assemble the cash first !
Stock market's gone nuts. Sell some and put the mula in the Jag!
Unfortunately the London stock market has not gone nuts, (yet), so I'm hoping my BP and VOdaphone shares rocket, but so far not ! I just hope your judges don't fine BP too much for the Gulf spill !!
Such an old fashioned idea. Money, cash, funds, whatever. But it works well and I like it.
How about getting some of the Queens's gold. It would spend just splendidly.
Have a great weekend.
I've gone flying.
