Default Low Coolant Warning, found steering fluid leakage?

Hello!

I just took my XJR out of the garage for the season, it's only used during the Spring and Summer.

It's been faultless really during my 1 year ownership.

So, Low Coolant Warning came on today. I've haven't been noticing any fluids on the garage floor so I knew it was either a bad sensor, I just need top up the coolant fluid OR something had burst.

I did get home, but of course I was eye balling the temp gauge all the time!

Popping the hood just to realize the coolant level look ok, I couldn't find any MIN/MAX markings though.

Anyways, I did found some oily liquid on the plastic engine cover and on the right side. Please see attached photos.

When looking under the car I could see, what I guess is, steering fluid been leaking. As the photo shows the right side is rather wet, the left is completely dry.

I remember my old XJ40 had a high pressure steering hose replaced, any weak points on the X350?

And could it be something else leaking? It doesn't look like engine oil to me, and it's not as sticky. As you can see on the photo it's been splashing up, suggesting under pressure?

If I'm correct since my car has not yet passed 160.000 km the car is still on the same steering fluid as when it was delivered new?

The coolant in these is orange when it leaks so based on your photos it looks as though it is just the coolant leaking. The coolant is slippery and smells quite sweet (don't taste it as its toxic). Your coolant reservoir should have a min and max mark inside the coolant tank, I suspect yours will be low:

Has the DCCV been changed?

I am not sure if that year XJ has one but I think it does.

First point to check must be the coolant header tank where the small hose fixes to it at the top. This gradually cracks all the way round until the hose drops off, but before then it leaks there. Any other hose connections to plastic pipes are also suspect too. In my case, I needed a new header tank and also a new water rail at the rear of the radiator. However my car has the V6, so it is not identical, although both cars have a header tank.
