Reporting that the thunk I was getting over road bumps, especially at low speed was resolved in my case by replacing the inner tie rod. I had been looking and chasing other bushes and the outer tie rod was worn after 150k miles.
I could not feel any play in the inner tie rod but it was very loose and after replacement, no clunks when going over road bumps and shipped humps in car parks.
Got a pair from Taiwan for $30 but seem to be OK.
