The Queen's X-type is built on the Ford CDW27 platform which had been around since the early 1990's. (Ford Contour/Mazda 626) Entry level Jaguar. Very dated design.

And anyway, I'm pretty sure personal royal stuff gets a change of registration number when it's sold.

Around 1985 or so I was visiting London as a tourist, and was surprised to walk down Whitehall, and be alongside Thatcher in the back of an XJ extended wheelbase. She was busy haranguing some poor ******* in the other rear seat, but I was maybe 3 ft from her.
No cell-phone cameras back then. I assume it was an armored model, but there was no other escort around.,
Living in the US, I found that strange..... and she must have had more ***** than a US President would - I think this was AFTER the IRA Brighton Bombing ?

Must have been the subconscious reason I now have an XJ Vanden Plas !

When David Cameron first became PM he decided to walk from No.10, down along Whitehall, to the Houses of Parliament. (He didn't do it for long !) Now that, for a POTUS, really would be something.

Very interesting info from Bonhams':

The braking system features Alcon mono-block brake callipers (six-piston front, four-piston rear), high-performance brake pads, and ventilated discs, while the suspension incorporates specially strengthened Bilstein B46 dampers and bespoke high-strength silicon-alloy Eibach springs. Tyres are of the 'run flat' type

One would imagine that Eibach springs have additional 'coil-overs' which act as 'helpers' to the air springs.

Tyres are of the 'run flat' type
So were Hitler's (but Maggie had more b*lls !)

(Joke !)

Thatcher was called (behind her back) as "Attila the Hen." It didn't help that her husband was very mousy and evidently quite henpecked.

Dammit. I thought all Jaguars were "bullet-proof" :-)
