Unhappy My beloved 04 XJR is totaled.

While I was driving home last night, I encountered a large rock in the road. This rock went under the car and ended up tearing a hole in the transmission, dropping the driveshaft, bending the subframe, smashing the transmission mounts, tweaking parts on the chassis, bending all of my exhaust components, and bumping and tearing other things along the way.

As assessed by my service department, the damage to the car is more than the value of the car itself. I am now in contact with my insurance company and I am positive that they will total the car.

After eight years of loyal service, I am so sad to see the car suffer a devastating blow like this. The car had so much more life in it...and the car never had any problems. It is and has been an absolute pleasure to own and operate and it is by far my favorite car that I've owned. It's been less than twenty-four hours and I already miss it so damn much.

May she rest in peace.

Damn! And a black one, too! That's enough to make ME cry, and you're the one that lost the steed.

My condolences. That just means you have to hunt down another one and jump right back on! Happy hunting......

Cheers,

Don't give up

Have you considered buying back the wreck?

Many used parts are available now for not a lot of money, especially in the UK.

These big cats have 9 lives. Your beloved pet is not gone, it is injured. It will heal, and be restored to you. Do not despair, or lapse into depression. Your companion needs you more than ever before. Go to it now.

Just as I saw your topic I thought something worse . This is still a nasty incident but better than any type of collision .
Good thing , you are OK and can buy another car if you like

Familiarize yourself with www.car-part.com and a nice indy shop to do some swaps... you might get away with about 3-4 grand of repairs.

Damage as described by my dealer:

"The damage includes the front subframe, transmission, transmission mount, undercarriage, exhaust, rear catalytic converter, rear differential brace, and a few other smaller items. Parts alone are about $12,000 (using a doner transmission), not including labor. The biggest issue is that the chassis itself was severely damaged underneath, not allowing a "patch job" if you wanted to try a less expensive alternative. The chassis damage would require the body be stripped and mounted on a full vehicle frame stretcher (most likely) to straighten the body pan. I believe the chassis damage alone would have the insurance company totaling the vehicle, but we will see when they come out today."

How many miles? There are some really nice low mileage 04-05 XJR's on Ebay. In the 30K mile range. If I was moved already and ready to buy I would seriously be looking at them.

If you are interested in a 2004 blk/blk beautiful XJR replacement, contact fellow long standing member Androulakis. He just happens to have one for sale!

Sorry for your loss.

Default You are lucky!

I have spent 31 years in fire fighting and have responded to thousands of crashes. To to survive a high speed collision with a boulder like that and not be injured or injury someone else is a is a miracle. If you were driving a Fiat 500 or a Smart Car, I am sure you would have lost control and suffered an injury.

It's disappointing to loose such a nice car, but I always told people be thankful you survived. It seems like a big deal when it happens to you, but collisions happen all the time. Tomorrows another day, be thankfull you were not hurt and you'll find another car. I'm sure of it.

The silver lining in this cloud is that you get to go out and shop for another Jaguar! I'm glad to hear YOU were not injured in this accident.

Glad you are okay. The car isn't as important as you!

My coworker has a friend who swerved to avoid a TRAFFIC CONE in the middle of the road, spun out and crashed into a concrete wall, resulting in pretty severe knee injuries. At least your instincts were right not to attempt a stunt like that!

That was one destructive stone!
Have you started the search for another yet?
