new control arm bushings failed <20k miles
I replaced my rear lower control arm bushings with ones sourced from the UK late last year. These were just the two spherical joints, not the compliance bushing at the front end of the arms. Had a local machine shop press them in and out, seemed to go without any issue. Side note--my upper control arms were replaced with complete new units as those had excessive play in the compliance bushings. Car was aligned after replacement.
This weekend I was doing rear brakes, when I noticed I could move the hub knuckle fore-aft with a noticeable clunk. Looking at it, I could see almost 1/8" movement in the lower bushing at the connection to the knuckle (where a lower ball joint should be). Found the same play on both sides of the car, worse on the left side.
I had been noticing a rattle from the rear suspension lately, but figured my sway links were on the way out again. This comes as a very disappointing surprise. I can only guess at one of two reasons: either the compliance bushing has too much play and causes binding of that spherical joint, or the replacement bushings simply are not the same quality as the OE bushings and can't handle the loads in that suspension location.
I suppose at this point I should start shopping for complete new lower arms.

This was the decision I had to make. The lower rears had disintegrated on the driver side, the toe arms were almost parted. At that time the Ford/Lincoln rear arms were about 270.00 each. It looks like availability has declined and price increased in the last 18 months.
Look for Lincoln arms. Jaguar is cast into the arms.

That's the front suspension, I'm talking about the rear suspension lower arms. But thank you! I will be replacing those front bushings soon as well.
The rear suspension lower arms are the same as Lincoln LS? I knew the rear upper arms were, and have replaced those with "Ford" parts (also embossed with Jaguar). But did not know the rear lowers were shared too.
