New Owner here....from North Carolina
Just joined as i picked up a mostly mint 2005 XJR recently. Low miles (85k) and always garaged! I'm the 3rd owner with last one owning 10+ years. Drove from NC to the Tenn / AL line to drive her home. First Jag ever...been wanting one since the late 80s. Look forward to learning from this board and at some point helping others as i've done with our 2006 Audi A8L on their board.
Will get some pics uploaded soon.

The X350 saloons are a lovely car, but do have a few issues that ocasionally need attention. Essentially these are: -
1. Air suspension - the air compressor may need to be replaced at some point, OR the piston rings in the compressor replaced. One of our members produces and sells a kit for this. Ocasionally you get air leaks that have the effect of lowering the car whilst it is standing. These are expected if they're slight and the compressor keeps the car at the correct height using info from the height sensors. These ocasionally fail so need replacing. With my two X350s I never really had any trouble apart from having to replace the compressor on the first car shortly after purchase, and the new compressor was still on the car when I part-exed it for another X350, (actually the restyled X358)
2. Suspension bushes - some of these are notorious for their short life, far shorter than you would expect for a car in this class. Each air spring has a bush at the bottom which lasts between 30-40k miles, which is really quite atrocious. This is because these four bushes alone carry the full weight of the car. Not one of Jaguars best designs ! Also the bushes on the rear lower wishbone are short life items, but it is now much cheaper to replace these.
In addition to the above, you will probably find instances of crevice and filiform corrosion of the aluminium body. This manifests itself as apparent bubbling under the paint and is fairly easy to fix on a DIY basis. Look at the leading edge of the trunk lid, and also around the wheel arch rim, and the lower edge of the "Jaguar" trim escutcheon at the rear of the trunk lid. This corrosion is unsightly but not really a car killer like rust.

Nice Jag-same colour as mine except my interior is champagne.
The colour code is MDZ and called 'Platinum'
My son and family lived in Charlotte for 3 years.
He had an older S8 and had a problem with the fuel pump.
It was a frozen nut inside the tank.
I did not think it could be done but he did it.
Sold it to a black guy who was very pleased with it.

Best of luck on the acquisition. This is my 3rd XJ, had one X308 (prior model) and 2 of these. Very reliable cars with the usual caveats, all of which are manageable, suspension issues potentially being the most costly, but again, manageable. I'll bet you were impressed with fuel consumption from a 300 HP, V8 powered full size luxury car.
I am in Wake Forest and another forum member lives in Raleigh, We get together on occasion to do some work, such as servicing the lifetime service ZF 6HP transmission. (swapping fluid and replacing seals and filter, and afternoons work) So welcome to the LOCAL X350 owners group, such as it is.
Here's a pic of the fully polished aluminum (aluminium for the Brits and Aussies out there) that Jaguar created to show off the design and a few contemporaneous reviews and some of the development story for your reading pleasure:
I wonder if they made more that one - else why do the museum pics have the early egg crate grill and the Paris show have the stainless mesh... hmmm.

Enjoy the hell out of it. You will wonder why you waited so long, lol! Also these are starting to get lots of compliments as they age so gracefully! I had a 20-ish young woman ask if she could take photos of my car yesterday when I was out. THAT is an exception, but the older folks tend to ooh and ahh when they see a nice one. Keep it to yourself that these are not as expensive as everyone thinks they are.

2 week update on xjr
Thanks John for all the information and let me know next time you guys meet up.
Had the car 2 weeks this Friday. Car was not driven much since 2016 so i'm finding some issues and searching like mad to fix them. I expected shortcomings to show up since sitting in a garage for so long.
- drive from AL to NC = 23 mpg....although i didn't check tire pressure and 3 of 4 were very low (my fault)
- SRS light on...code 17 (trying to figure this one out..code is B2291...so passenger position sensor is bad in one of the 4
- CDC changer had code B2403 so i used butter knife to get magazine to release...then worked on it back and fourth and now CDC works great
- U3FF6 = one bad inner backing sensor in the bumper so i'm trying to find one in Silver and will drop the bumper to replace as hands are too big to go through rear light cluster
-B2319 = passengers mirror vertical feedback potentiometer circuit to ground...this mirror dips in reverse, but doesn't return to 'saved' position when moved in 'drive'. Gonna remove motor and clean and oil
-took car for alignment/balance for a small vibration at all speeds...seems one front developed a blister or bubble and needs replacing so i'm getting 2 front Michelin's to match the rears
-I replaced one upper O2 oxygen sensor to remove CEL that just popped up.
-oil change with 5w30 Castrol with Wix filter
-ordered Mina Gallery air intake
