Arrow On to the next one!

I remember my first Jaguar, it was a 1996 XJ6. Since that time I have not looked back. I bought a 2004 XJ8 Base nearly 3 years ago and now I picked up a 2008 XJ8 Vanden Plas. What a beautiful car it is. I am now selling my 04 XJ8 to offset my costs on the 08. Naturally the 08 has come with some issues, hence the cheap purchase price.
-I have a right hand rear low tire pressure message which Ill be filling it with air today in the hopes it goes away.
-I have a airbag light that after doing some reading might be resolved by removing my clock spring and giving it a thorough cleaning.
-I have a check engine light for a secondary air pump fault which I hope will resolve itself when I replace the 7 year old jaguar battery
-I have a Key fob that only locks the car no matter which button i press!
-And I have a parking assist sensor fault which I have no idea how to tackle as of yet!

But all is still good as everything else in the car functions like a charm!

P2431 - Secondary air injection system air flow/pressure sensor circuit range/performance

  • Secondary air injection pump/valve/pipework leaks
  • Secondary air injection pump
  • Secondary air injection valve

P2432 - Secondary air injection system air flow/pressure sensor circuit low

  • Secondary air injection manifold pressure (MAP) sensor circuit: short circuit to ground
  • Secondary air injection manifold pressure (MAP) sensor circuit: high resistance

There's a pressure sensor on the outlet of the air pump (akin to a MAP sensor). P2432 is indicating a failure of that senor circuit (short to gnd or open). Sounds like that would be the place to start. Check the powertrain section of the FSM for the exact pinpoint tests.

etaent,

You can download the full X350 DTC Summaries Manual here:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...03388427,d.cWw

You can also download the full Workshop Manual in six sections from the 'HOW TO' quick links thread on the home page of this X350 forum.

Cheers,

Don

Wow thanks for the info Don! I will look into it. Just a small note, the p2432 code has disappeared and only 2431 remains. Additionally, i removed the relay by the secondary air pump and jumped the terminals to see if the pump was actually operational and it did in fact turn on, is it possible the relay is bad?

Hi etaent,

Yes, it's quite possible the relay has failed. You can test it if you have an ohmmeter and a couple of jumper wires to supply 12V from the car's battery to the relay's coil terminals.

However, I would think that an even more likely cause of your P2431 code would be an air leak in one of the pipes.

As Sean mentioned, check the Powertrain section of the Workshop Manual for pinpoint tests you may be able to conduct to diagnose the cause of your P2431.

Cheers,

Don

I would replace the clock spring because they do wear and yours is giving problems. It's not too high usually about $100-$150. Permanent fix.

For the key fob it would be cheapest to get two new replacements off EBay. The FOB's do wear out after so many years and you can try to clean the buttons and you can even replace the buttons again from EBay but it's a lot of messing around and they still might not be 100% when your done.

Ok i will definitely check the power train manual. Thanks guys! And yes I have been seeing plenty of info on the parking assist. I have to get around to that. However there is a more pressing issue, when I swapped the original battery that the car came with for the new battery i had in my 04 xj8, i lost sound in the radio. It appeared the cd was playing but no sound. i checked to see if i was getting navigation voice and nothing there either. So me in my infinite wisdom, I held the phone and menu button to go into the (1971 code) sub menu and tried an update from the cars own software and now I have a black screen, and the screen that shows the temperature for the car keeps saying EXT51 and then 50. What did i do?! :'''(

Ummm... I don't even know after 16 Jags why I would even question this fix. But... Ok... I give in, I'll go and check my 07 XKR for a clock spring. Here I thought my air bag was do to a bad seat buckle, silly me.

Ok so the new relay came in for my secondary air pump. After installing it the pump began working! But the check engine light persists even after I clear it. Now I'm getting p2432.

On a side note I am happy to say that I got the parking assist fixed. I was looking to see where the windshield wiper washer fluid was leaking and i removed the bumper to find the culprit. In doing so I found that one of the park sensors wires had been cut for some reason. Little bit of sodering and she's as good as new!
