I think most of us have been in your situation...just wanting to go drive it!

Looks very nice. Has the good fender vents too. Not the pimped out version. Very classy.

Now go change your sig. You are no longer looking!

Done. The only thing I don't like are the chrome wheels. But that should be an easy fix, and not one that I'm in a hurry to get done.

Congrats to you buddy, really nice car and I hope it serves you well.

+1 on the chrome wheels though, they don't do it any favours IMO

Remember we are here to help you

If you do have any issues with the air suspension it may be due to the compressor....one of our members here, bagpipingandy has a solution for that as against buying a new compressor at $$$

Good luck

Well I got her home and she hasn't broken down on me yet.

Took her out for a quick spin tonight on the closest thing we have to country roads around here. Had to bust out the old CD collection, felt good wafting through the countryside to a little Pink Floyd.

[QUOTE=AM150;844084]Here's a couple of pics from the dealer. It's a done deal, and now I can't concentrate at work.

I think those wheels with the 09 front end make the car very ....Bentley.

I would keep them.

Geez, guys, in 111,000 miles since new I haven't had any of these issues on my '04 XJ8 (except the item about replacing brakes which is normal maintenance). I'm even still on my original battery.

You guys have me worried now ... is there something wrong with my car?!?

I am a pretty nit picky guy about my cars so I would bet I can find stuff I would fix on your 04 with that kind of mileage.

The 05 VDP I sold recently was in such good shape that my dealer told the buyer not to waste his money on a PPI.

Most of my work on the VDP was done under Select warranty. I exercised my warranty to its full extent. Some repairs were done because they COULD be done due to visible wear and were covered under warranty, not because they must be done due to failure.

A lovely car , if I may say so, and the chrome wheels set off the black perfectly. Only thing I would have liked if I was buying would be a much lighter colour trim like ivory, (my present car trim colour).

However, keep those bling wheels, they look good !

BTW, I assume you know these cars are constructed of aluminium, and handle like a car half the size because of it

I'm surprised by the love for the wheels.. Maybe I'll be able to trade them for something more to my taste.

I have heard how this car is supposed to handle like a smaller car, but I'm not feeling that at all. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my other cars.

I've followed your posts and you are an amazing DIYer. I wished you lived closer so you could help me find those things that need fixing ... but, since u live 3,000 miles from me I'm just gonna keep on driving it till some mechanical part goes AWOL and then I'll fix it.

The car seems to run and drive as well as the day we took it off the showroom floor.

The chrome wheels look FANTASTIC! Those were OEM....don't change a thing IMO. The black paint and the chrome contrast is perfect.

So, I find myself back on the forum as I'm kinda in my 2 year cycle of seeing if there's another car I want to buy and I figured I'd give you guys an update, also I like this thread as documentation of my life with this car.

As most know I bought this back in Oct 2013 with 44,000 miles on it mainly for my long commute. In Dec of that year I decided that job wasn't for me and quit to start my own company (separate story but all going well there).

Since then I have put 45k miles on it and it has become one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. I love the space, the comfort and the quietness. The only thing that would improve this car would be the ability for me to plug in my phone to listen to music.

We have taken this car on several long road trips, it's been to Texas and back 4 times for various events at Circuit of The Americas, included 2 F1 races. Other than regular maintenance it has needed the following replaced:
- Front control arm - Covered by Select Warranty
- Diff seal - Failed 1 day out of warranty, dealer good willed it
- Rear speed sensor $500ish at the dealer - This failed on our latest road trip last month in Memphis, lit up all kinds of lights on the dash and also managed to put the trans in limp mode.

Overall I don't think I can complain too badly and I got what I have hoped for in terms of reliability.

First time I've seen a speed sensor mentioned on the forum. Hopefully you were just unlucky on this one. Diff seals are also normally long lived. Suspension bushes are what we would call in the UK a "hardy annual", i.e. a plant that comes up every year regardless !! Suspension bushes are the one weakness on these cars IMHO, they wear out far too quickly for what is claimed to be a light (aluminium) car.

Agreed and I think OEM was originally 3 times that price and still are, however now there are aftermarket alternatives that weren't available in the not too distant past. Applies to bushes as well.

Those and transmission filter/fluid replacement seem to be the biggest pain points for folks. Small price to pay to drive the most beautiful cars on earth imnsho

It wasn't the replacement that was a worry, it was being stranded on the side of the road because one failed.

Needless to say, after 46k miles it doesn't weight too heavily on my mind anymore.
