I have a bluetooth BAFX Products sensor and when i plug it into my 04 XJ8 it throws out every error and warning on the dash and prevents me from starting the engine when turning the key. Once i remove the OBD the car goes back to normal. I got codes of P1638 and P1642.

Has anyone else had this and know how to resolve it?

 

Either it or the software sounds faulty. Not rare with clone devices, sadly.

 

The OBD scanner i have works perfectly fine on my hyundai and my nissan. its just this jag that i got that acts up weird and prevents the car from starting

 

The icarsoft i930 is an inexpensive Jaguar specific reader.
There are many more expensive ones but for the money, it was the best i could find.
It reads & clears many codes ordinary readers do not.
It is a necessary expense with a lot of, if not all cars anymore

 

They use different protocols to talk to different things so whether it works on another car means nothing useful sadly.

 

I feel like you are trying to reason with a 2 year old who is having a tantrum. If she doesn't like your code reader then stop using it and get one she likes.

I ran in the same issue with BAFX product. When I emailed their customer support that thought it might be a short in my OBD port. I did inform them I am able to use an Autel OBD meter with no issues. They sent me out a second one with same result. It does not appear that the BAFX work with the 04 jaguars XJ*. I have seen other people use this product with success on newer Jaguars.

 

FYI: Jaguar made a modification in late 2005 for the 06 model year:I have no idea if this affects the function of OBDII, I assume not, but it could explain why scanners have more issues with the earlier cars. As another post said: If it hurts when you do THIS, don't do THIS.
