My car is a 3.0 V6 and the issue is that the oil warning light is coming on while the vehicle is at idle, it started last week a couple of times, it goes off as soon as the engine revs above tick over but now it is coming on every time the car is not under load.
Are there any known causes of this ? could it be the sender unit ?I believe there are 2 for the oil but I am not sure and I am not at all familiar with these engines.
The oil level is ok, if anything possibly a bit high, the thought of it being the oil pump does concern me a bit.

If engine temperature related this could be main bearings. Usually they give up slowly. If problem gets worse fast it could be pump failing.
If may be worthwhile to change the sending unit. Not likely the issue, but not a bad job. Oil pump should be okay job. Mains are major.
Every car I have owned with oil pressure light coming on needed main bearings. Maybe your luck is better than mine.

 

Cheers, I will take note of the temperature but I think it does the same from cold so hopefully not the mains.

 

I looked up the pressure gauge, sending unit. The were reasonable at 7 -11 USD at Rockauto for the 3.0 V6.
