Default Overhead Console Switches.

A few of the switches including roof, are inoperable. I touch them and they move into console housing.
This should be a simple fix with a new 10cent spring.
How does one get to them after un-attaching the console?
I can't believe I will have to buy a new or used console.

Do a search on Ebay for: 04-07 JAGUAR XJ8 ROOF MOUNTED OVERHEAD CONSOLE SUNROOF SWITCH . Might not be the same as yours but will likely be similar.

There are "plastic" non removable tabs that hold things in place. They would have to be
drilled out and then you could use appropriate sized screws to reattach.

A recent post suggested this approach and for the same problem you are experiencing.

I've added 2 pics of the problem. So, to recap. The 3 dome light switches at the front are loose and when pushed go into housing. I went to Jag dealer and they were worse than useless. Yes they had the 3 switches, but this would only replicate the issue and there is still the problem of how to install. I talked to service manager who says he has been a Jag mechanic since 2003 yet also did not know how to install nor did he understand why the switches did not connect to the electronic board. I think there should be something between the switch (the white part is the top of the switch) and the contacts on the green board above. They did not have a console in stock from which to compare, nor was there a diagram or part in their catalog. Unbelievable. There was a consensus by the service managers that they would remove the plastic 'weld' connecting the board to the body and then replace using small screws as the writer above says.. This would/should get me access to area where I can install switches. But...what goes between switch and board? The 2 pics show the 3 switches up close and the other, a larger view of the whole board. Does anyone know what I am missing? If the dealer has the switches for sale as a single item then Jaguar know the board can be removed. My console has an extra button from most I have seen on EBay. There is a switch to lower and raise the rear sun visor and next to that is a switch with a P. There is no mention of this in the drivers handbook, but I presume it has something to do with a bluetooth microphone system

The "P" is for turning on and off the proximity/parking alarm.

I think your only choice is to "undo" the welds and take a look behind the buttons.

So theoretically if I don't want this feature I could utilize a console with no P?
There seems to be very few used consoles with this feature.

Ebay item # 201665881538

Have a look at the above Ebay item. The seller is open to "best offer".

There is no guarantee that the press in switches are 100%. If interested I suggest a relatively low ball offer. Thats what I always do and most of the time its accepted.

Btw I find the parking assist beep useful especially reversing.,

Default Thanks Jackra

Brilliant. Thanks for finding that piece. It fits exactly. I had almost given up hope on finding an exact match. I feel a real plonker for not having come across that part and at such a relatively cheap price. In my defence I had no idea it fitted an XJR also. I learned much . I must now search by part #. In your experience is this the right call?
Thanks for the input of the proximity parking.
I haven't driven this car alot, but I can now see that there might be limited ability to realize where end of trunk is.

I have learned the hard way that Ebay items have to be scrutinized very carefully. Just because it lists your car as compatible it is not necessarily true. It is not so bad with the larger sellers that sell lots of Jaguar parts.

The actual part number is mostly good for searching but still not 100% I have found a couple of Jaguar parts with 2 different part numbers even for the same VIN range.

I also manage to get some pretty good deals with low bidding on Ebay Jaguar items especially if those items are not in high demand.

I hope you get the part and that the switches all work. I found this an interesting thread given that my rear sunscreen switch is a little wonky and the push button is loose and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

The last time I disconnected the battery and did the touch-the-cables-together bit (when I was trying to solve the supercharger coolant pump no-run situation), when I reconnected the battery the rear sunscreen went up and down about five times before it finally settled on one position. I usually leave it up now so no one can put anything on the rear shelf that might damage it if it decides to go up on its own.
