Just bought a 2000 XJ8 that is about as pretty as could be. First vehicle I`ve ever owned that didn`t specify paint color on the title or registration. It appears to be a gun metal blue/grey with creme interior, but of course I`m only guessing. Any thoughts on how to know what Jaguar colors were for 2000.

 

Check the LH door post next to the lock for a Jaguar vehicle identification label on a 2000 XJ8. Jaguar use a 3 letter code system for Paint and Trim codes. Both these codes appear on the label. The thumbnail shows a UK style label but the US label is similar.

If you're after matching touch-in paint, the 3 letter Paint code should be all you need. If you just want to know the actual name of the body colour, reply with the code.

How can I recover this information, especially the paintcode ?

 

Im not absolutely sure, but you possibly could call up a jaguar dealership, parts department, give them the last six of the VIN. That may work.

 

Every Jaguar of that approximate vintage has what the dealers call a "build sheet". Any dealer can access the build sheet for any car by VIN. The as built details will be there. The Jaguar help line can also do this over the phone.
