I've been reading for months about how to get Bluetooth in my early 2004 XJR, VIN G20192. Evertime I thought I had it straight I would find something else - is the car prewired? Does it have the right harness? etc. I read on the UK forums a Jaguar bulletin saying cars were prewired starting with VIN G40xxx, but it turns out that's for UK spec cars.

Anyway, I got most of the pieces off eBay over the last eight months or so. I got the external mic, a PSE revision AD, and a BT module, revision AA. (I'm not confident in this module, I'll have to see if it works.)

I started installing things today. I used this pdf as a guide. The mic went in fine. There was an empty socket to plug it into just like the guide showed.



I popped the rear 2-zone climate panel out and there was the BT socket. Sorry, the picture is a little blurred. It's the red one on the left.



I ended up taking the console out to mount the module, but it comes out easily. Two torx fasteners behind the rear climate panel and two under the shifter trim and it comes up and back. I cut away the sound insulation and attached the module. This puts it between the side of the console and the side of the console tray.



So far, so good. I removed the electronics stack and found a connector for the PSE.



However, I think I made need another D2B cable. Here is what I have now:



A cable coming from the front of the car is labeled "BT INLINE" and terminated with a plug. A cable coming off the CD changer runs to near the amp and is terminated with a loop. This cable is labeled "REAR ICE/D2B." Now my questions: Do I need another harness? What does "ICE" mean? I assume it's an acronym for something, like Integrated Communications Electronics, but I suppose it could be for an icemaker too.

Aha! "ICE" - In Car Entertainment. I assume this is part of the rear seat entertainment system?

Instead of the 'plug-in loop' at one of your terminations of the wiring, try connecting your phone module instead. I had to replace my entire DB2 fiber optic harness in the boot, but I had all of my available plugs taken, so needed a new 'entry' into the fiber optics for my phone module.

Cambo351 previously listed a certain order of the loop, in order for it to work properly, CD changer, amplifier, blah blah blah, so that might have to be taken into consideration as well if you're new phone connection doesn't work immediately.

Si it looks like I could take the connection labeled ICE, remove the loop, and insert it into the PSE and it would be in the correct order. What about the one labeled BT INLINE?

...uh, BT INline, no idea, sorry. I don't recall mine having that plug...i'll be in the boot doing some amp wiring in the next week, if I see something to report, I'll update your thread.

If a car has the rear media console, the "REAR ICE" is plugged into the "BT INLINE" nothing to do with bluetooth.

If the ICE will reach to where the PSE sits, then you should be good to go.

Correct order for the D2B modules is;

Head Unit --> CD Changer --> Phone --> Voice --> Rear Media --> Nav --> Amplifier --> Head Unit

So you will probably have to shuffle round the connections.

If the order is CD changer (which I have,) followed by phone, voice, rear media (which I do not have,) then nav (which I have,) then the rear media cable should be in the correct order if plugged into phone, voice or rear media. I'm waiting until I get my voice bridge from gaudins to try it.

Really! Way too complicated my car has the BT phone why I cannot just plug in a Bluetooth module somewhere is beyond me! Think I will just be in comunicardo when in the XJR, at least I will get a nice break from the phone.

Do you mean you have the phone handset in the console?

Yep my car has a built in phone but will only work in the UK with BT (British Telecom) so I have all the phone settings on the screen built in Microphone the works, the only thing I do not have is Bluetooth comparability to connect to my iPhone.

Does the screen say "No BT Phone" ? Because that means Bluetooth!

Yep screen says no BT phone! Been going around and around with this there must be a simple way without rewiring everything.

Your car must have the full bluetooth system fitted? If it was just the phone module without the bluetooth receiver it would say "Error Please Contact Your Dealer"

Try keying in ##3*# & press send. Should then say "Discover Me"
Search with your phone for a Bluetooth Device, should see Jaguar
Passcode is 1313...my iPhone 4S connects no problem...

Cambo followed instructions, entered code and my screen says Ready at the top but not discover me. My phone also cannot find anything from the car.

Strange. OK so maybe there is some other issue. Can you try with another phone?

Ready is usually a sign that a phone is connected. Maybe a hardware problem...?

Played around with the code a few times and now the No BT phone is gone now it says registered! But still cannot connect iPhone.

Ok so sorted, for some reason my code ##1#*# then it all worked and phone paired. Thanks Cambo for putting me on the right track now all I have to do is sort out all the voice commands. Funny this code was for a 2005 model year!

Thanks again Cambo would of been much simpler if I had the separate blue tooth hand book that I have just found a copy of on-line. This was not in my manual pack! Funny how you find stuff only after you do not need it! If anyone needs a copy I have it to e-mail would love to find a way to post it as there must be others out there without this manual too.
