THINGS I WOULD ASK YOU TO FIND ARE ..POP OR RATTLE, OVER SPEED BUMPS, INCLINE OF YTOU DRIVE WHEN CAR TWISTED, AND GOING OVER LANE DIVIDER BUMPS. SWAY BAR NOISES ARE EASY, DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH TO ROCK THE CAR, THIS WILL MAKE BAD SWAY BAR BUSHINGS AND END LINKS GO NUTS

Don't bother with on the road troubleshooting tests. Get underneath and use a pry bar to detect excessive movement of the rubber pieces. You will easily find the damaged units. gordo

gordo, I can tell you that finding squeeks, rattles, and pops on everything from new to old, no miles to high mileage, you have to drive and duplicate. You'll never find a worn/loose/dry/rubbing component by prying on them under the car without alot of luck. there are way to many things that create noises, and if it where that easy we techs wouldnt use these to isolate noises...and have to spend so much time finding the causes.

best product to diagnose any noise next to experience, you can probobly find even cheaper on Ebay. And how would you find a not fully tight rivits on the left side crush tubes for the front bumpers on 06 XJ8 that you cant even see without taking apart, or finding the convertible engine bay braces are loose on you model, or cool box pops, Xtype parking brake cable squeek, should I go on? I can tell you a half dozen common noises on every model, and many that arent

BRUTAL: I agree with you in principal that it is necessary to drive and roadtest;however,in this particular case, the OP has already indentified possible sources by doing just that. From his road test descriptions, it is likelythe noises are coming from worn control arm or sway bar bushings. These are sometimeseasily diagnosed using a pry bar technique to positively identifydefective parts. My suggestion was to comfirm whether or notthese parts are causing the problem. If not, then go back to the traditional troubleshooting techniques, some of which you outlined above. gordo

By the way that is a very sharp Jaguar exterior color quartz and dove interior, my jaguar xj8 is the same color. At times I just stand and look how beautiful the car is, its like art on wheels.

Hey Gordo,

Hope your Florida sun is running rich. I have a small favor to ask..

There is a thread running started by JimC64, "Must be over surely". Amidst the post-electionhyperbole is a layman'sperspective on our economy that I wrote. I'd be interested to read your critique, as I believe your experience could give me a little more insight. If you have a moment, please peruse and purvey your pronouncements privately. Peace.

Brutal don't be ridiculous... Jag Techs, like yourself, who participate inforums like this, are the source fora consistently high level of accurate and valid information.Without thebona fide technical expertise andpractical experience you bring to the table, solutions to readers problemscan, and will, end up beingbased on urbanauto myths,half-baked solutions, and sometimesoutright dangerous backyard workarounds. Don't for a moment think we don't appreciate your input. Gordo

Check the sway bar. I had a problem on my S-type changed all of the front end components to find that it was the sway bar.
