Removing the rear passenger seat headrests

any tips in on how to remove the rear passenger seat headrests ? On a 2004 Jaguar XJ8
i tried but they don’t come all the way out and there is not enough room because it touches the roof

If they do not come out because they touch the roof then your only option is to take the bottom seat out and detach the rear seat enough to pull the top forward to pull the head rests out.

Brute force.
Raise the headrest to its highest position, grab the two chrome rods, and pull up. I've found the best position to do this in is actually sitting in the rear seat with the front seatback reclined considerably back. The fit is incredibly tight, but it will release with enough force. The procedure is described in the workshop manual, and I didn't believe it myself until it finally let go. I've done it a handful of times.
