rear seat removal
I cannot figure out how to get the top half of the rear seat in our 1999 Vandenplas. We are parting the car out and I would love any help on removal. I already have the lower part out. I am sure it is easy I am just not seeing it.
I just bought the wife a 2001 XJ8 as the 99 was very tired.
Thank You in advance!

You have to use a LOT of force to lift out the rear seat. There are tabs at the top of the backrest that have to be forced apart. I was able to remove it by myself, but I would recommend that two people lift it out. It was hell removing my back seat. I never want to have to do that again!

I just completed my SiriusXM Onyx Plus install in my 2002 XJ8 Sport. Yes the rear seat was a challenge to remove. The following best describes my experience;
-Rear Seat Removal
My seat is secured in the front by two torx head screws. In order to access the screws you must remove two access panels next to the rear floor mats. These panels simply pop out secured only by snap clips. Upon removal I was quite surprised to find a fuse box and lots of wiring behind each panel. Once the screws are out and the front of the seat is raised you will find 4 wiring connectors (2 per side), must likely for the rear seat heat. Separate these connectors and the seat is free to remove. Ensure to properly position the seat belt buckles prior to re-Install.
-Rear Seat Back Removal
There are four Philips head screws to remove along the lower edge of the seat back. Prior to lifting the seat back which is necessary to remove it you MUST first remove the top seat belt covers that surround each belt. This exposes an additional white colored clip that must also be disengaged. The back can know be removed by lifting upwards. Be prepared to try several angles of attack in order to accomplish the task. I finally laid on my back and used my shoulder to force the seat up. Once I had the back disengaged and moved forward I found a hole behind the RH side to fish the antenna wire through to the trunk. It's nice to know the procedure but would not want to do it again.
Hope this helps those who find this string.
