Restricted performance / temp guage
Sorry for the slow response, as I gave the Jag away a few years ago and have not been checking here very often.
It's been a very long time since I had the issue. As indicated in post #15 in this thread, my problem was diagnosed to broken clips in the thermostat housing. As in, they replaced the thermostat housing/thermostat. The housing is plastic, and the broken clips allowed coolant to go around the thermostat. I seem to recall the coolant pump impellers which are also plastic can be problematic too, though not in my particular case. Another symptom prior to replacing the thermostat housing was that the temp gauge in the dash was not coming up to the midway point, or taking a very long time to do so. Once the thermostat housing was replaced, the gauge rose fairly quickly to 1/2 way (or just the slightest smidge below 1/2 way).
