Default Workshop Manual X358 2006 - 2009

Guys,

i'm in the process of removing the engine timing cover of my XJ MY 2009 with N/A 4.2 in order to seal it.
I have a WSM for X350 from 2003 (pdf), but I noticed that some things have apparently been changed. That's why I would like to know:

- Did the factory release a WSM for the X358 from 2006, VIN H000001- ?

- The only source I found for an alledged X358 is: https://www.emanualonline.com/cars/j...tent=679822833,

Located in Wilmington, DE. Does anyone know them? Are they reliable? Or will i get what already have for 35 bucks...

Thanks for your hints,

Fritz

Hi Fritz,

as far as I know, there is only one workshop manual for all X350 to X358 from 2003 to 2009. At least, that's what is stated in the workshop manual that I had bought some years ago.

Look here, what is under section 21 and 22 looks like the workshop manual that I have:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...enance-246865/

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

thanks, I also have the WSM according to 21.

Maybe someone knows whether there was an update for the X358.

This is how the workshop manual that I bought 5 years ago looks like when I start it on my PC:

When I click on "Workshop", the pdf that opens looks like this:

AS the pictures show the X358, I would have said that it is a recent version of the manual. Another indicator for this is that in some sections (for example in Chapter 5, body and paint) the manual also includes specifics for VINs starting with "H18680", which (as far as I know) should be the VINs for the X358.
Here'sone example:

Regarding the 4.2 V8 engine, it only distinguishes between engines up to VIN45703 and engines from VIN45704, so I would assume that there were no more modifications.

I have made some sample comparisons between the workshop I bought and the one that is here in the forum and the samples match, although the cover pictures are different.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi guys,

thanks for your effort, but I don't think I have any other WSM regarding the content. The interface of Thomas' version is somewhat modernized and designed to be more user-friendly, but the content is identical.

This is from my version, includes the H-VIN as well:

But what's crucial for me is the description "Engine front cover removal" and it ends with the G-VINs.

Thanks again,

Fritz

.

The stopping with G99999 is why I assumed that there were no more modifications to the engine, but it remains a mystery about why Jaguar did not extend the VINs to include the "H" ones.
Have you been able to see whether the instructions fit with the engine front cover of your car?

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

fact is that the instructions do not fit in a few points.
But I don't know reliably whether the X350 WSM is just incomplete or whether there were changes to the X358 engines.

I'm now going to trigger emanualonline.com and ask for a proof extract, then I'll see if they actually have the X358 WSM wich they offered.
But I suspect that there was never one.

Hi Fritz,

looks like it,thanks!

What came to my mind just now: the engine was also used in the XK/XKR (X150), which is contemporary to the X350-X358. Maybe it is worth to have a look at the corresponding workshop manual, as it might be that there Jaguar has done the updates that you need?
Nothing is impossible...

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

yes, that would be an option, but I have now solved the problem. I'm assuming now that there was never an X358 WSM update.

Cheers, Fritz
